Rothiemurchus is situated in the Badenoch and Strathspey region in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Rich in wildlife, views and activities, it has been a popular holiday resort and centre for over two hundred years. Within half an hourís drive of Inverness Airport and at a momentís notice, it is possible to find yourself swapping your everyday life for an active Highland holiday weekend.

This beautiful highland estate is owned and run by the 17th Laird of Rothiemurchus and his wife Lady Grant. Running the estate has been a family tradition for the Grants for over four hundred years.

The Cairngorm Mountains, Glenmore Forest Park, Reindeer Centre, Loch an Eilein and Loch Morlich are all popular attractions here. There is a yachting club at Loch Morlich, equipped with windsurfing, kayaking and sailing and at nearby Aviemore, (a lively skiing resort since the sixties), you will find plentiful accommodation, sporting facilities and restaurants.

One of the top ten highest peaks in the UK, Cairn Gorm mountain, at 1244 metres is the second highest peak in Scotland. The Cairngorm funicular mountain railway despatches skiers and non-skiers onto the slopes for stunning views and lunch at its vertiginous Ptarmigan Restaurant. On the way up the Cairn Gorm is the Glenmore Forest Park, offering a visitorís centre, a wide range of wildlife and walkersí trails of varying ability levels.

Due to a diverse programme of activities, Rothiemurchus is of particularly interest to families. Go-karting, sled-dog driving, kayaking, archery, canoeing, clay pigeon shooting, walking, cycling and more besides will certainly guarantee the cries of boredom are reduced to a minimum.

The forest at Rothiemurchus is famous for possessing one of the biggest remnants of Scotlandís Caledonian Pine forest. Expect to see a wide range of tree species here such as the birch, rowan, aspen, holly, willow and alder. The forest here is of considerable conservation significance. Diversification of tree life is not all that is in plentiful supply here, you can expect to find red deer, roe deer, capercaillie, pine martin, red squirrel, crested tits, golden eagles, ospreys and much more.

With an area of 24,000 acres to explore it helps to receive some assistance. The ĎRothiemurchus Rangerí offers walking and driven guided tours and provides demonstrations of how this particular Highland estate functions. This is a good way also, to gain road access to places that you would not normally be able to, such as Loch an Eilein and the farms on the estate.
